This independent Donut Shop is a pretty big deal in the Orlando area. Remember how I said I found The Showcase of Citrus on accident and it was something I’ve had on my list for awhile? Donut King was another location that I’ve had on my list forever. There was another “OMG, that’s on my list moment!” on this trip as well, but I’m saving that for another day. It was great because I wasn’t looking for these establishments on purpose.
Like a nutjob, I got excited and asked the Mister to make a U-turn so I could check out The Donut King (this guy deserves an award, or a donut..)
Okay, the selection seems scarce because we were there about 5 pm. As we were leaving, a couple guys stocked up the cases with fresh donuts. I would’ve taken a picture but the order area is so small, and there was a line of people. It was hard getting the shots that I managed to capture.
We were quite popular. I posted this picture while I was still in the parking lot and I wasn’t even halfway home when I got serious inquiries and self invites to my house. Apparently, I’m the only person in Central FL who has never had a donut from the Donut King. One person even said “you can’t have JUST one” and I believe it. As much as I loved the donuts, I’m glad that they’re 40 minutes away from me, or I’d be in serious trouble.
I can’t remember all the flavors that we ordered. Their red velvet was pure perfection. I had never heard of a red velvet donut in my life!
I’m not an donut expert by any means, nor do I eat many donuts, but you can definitely tell that these were fresh.
This is their tasty Oreo donut.
Apparently, they have a drive-thru. I read this on their site, but I never saw it. Donuts are not their only specialty, they are the home of the Castle Burger, as well as Cajun dishes like Jambalaya, Red Beans & Rice, and Po Boys. Speaking of Cajun specialties, I just read that they have Beignets. Those are my absolute favorite, and I’ll have to try them next time I visit.
