I started this post with a complete lie. Fortunately, I looked up facts and won’t look ignorant. I was going to start off by saying that Florida is the most humid state ever. Thanks to Google, I found out that I was so wrong. Washington, Oregon, Texas, Louisiana, ya’ll are in luck.. This is one of my holy grail products that I cannot live without. This stuff can help everyone though!
Being a Florida native, I know humidity well. It’s probably the number one thing I dislike about this state. When I first lived on my own, I had a rude awakening. My shower became moldy so fast. I was a slave to my walk in shower and had to deep clean it every weekend. The first two years I was on my own, we had a bunch of hurricanes come through. When Hurricane Wilma hit us in 2005, we were without power for three weeks. If you’re not familiar with hurricanes, most people do their laundry and deep clean before it hits. I will never forget how my muggy apartment felt and smelled by day two without power. My mind was boggled because my apartment was so clean! I knew a couple of people who had mold damage during that time too.
When my apartment had power again, it took a couple of days for it to feel normal. Someone suggested I put DampRid all over the place, and sure enough, it worked. I’ve been loyal to this brand ever since.
Musty odors are due excess moisture in the air. They say the humidity percentage in your home should be at 50% or lower. Excess moisture also affects your indoor air quality. The EPA says that indoor air is often two to five times more polluted than outdoor air.
Since I’m in a brand new house, I try to retain it’s allure.
Excess moisture can cause
- Peeling of paint
- Rotting wood in window sills
- Curling floor tiles and/or damage to underlying flooring
- Condensation dripping from toilets, pipes or vents
Every closet in my home has this DampRid bag in it. This one is brand new.
And this one has been in my closet for a month. Do you see the water in the bottom of the bag? That’s from the moisture in the air.
I have these tubs in my bathrooms and laundry area.
This is what it looks like when you purchase it
Empty the bag of crystals and add to the tub
Add lid. Simple.
This is what my tub looks like after a week, and so on. It turns into liquid/gel.
I’ve noticed a huge difference since using this product. My shower doesn’t get mildew like it did years ago. My home never smells musty, especially in wet areas. The only con I can think of is the price, since I do have to purchase tub refills and new closet bags. The closet bags are $8 and the tub refill is $7. The crystals lasts up to 45 days. It doesn’t matter what kind of climate you live in, you still have damp areas in your home.
Do you have any tips or other products you swear by?
