This post holds a special place in my heart. I made this mason jar of love on the day I decided to blog. While I was picking up citrus for this project, I scored Rancid tickets. WHAAAT?
Typically, you drink Limoncello/Arancello on a hot summer day, but I’ve always associated Limoncello with the winter because I’m the weirdo that orders Limoncello on a cold winter day.
You only want the zest, not the white skin aka pith. The pith will make the Arancello bitter. Don’t use a cheese grater!
And this photo bomb was brought to you by you know who. (This photo was taken after I made the Arancello. No pup germs in my batch!)
Scrub your citrus with a veggie brush and rinse well.
I didn’t follow a specific recipe, I zest 10 clementines, 5 oranges, and 2 lemons. Do what you want but be very liberal with the zest! All you do is zest, add vodka (nothing too expensive or too cheap) to a mason jar and wait 45 days. As you wait, shake your jar a bit every few days.
At the 45 day mark, make a simple syrup (recipe here), add to your Arancello, close the jar and wait another 45 days.
This is the 90th day, look at the gorgeous color!
Strain it really well. After I strained it a couple of times in a strainer, I strained the Arancello in cheese cloth.
I bottled it up in this baby. It was $3.99 at Hobby Lobby
Seriously, I was terrified to try this. Every time I make something new and totally outside of my comfort zone, I panic.
It tastes like orange candy, I love it!
