When Sarah was in town a couple weeks ago, we spent a lot of time in downtown Winter Garden. My aunt and uncle live there, so I get to hang out in the area quite a bit, but I had never been to the farmers market. It doesn’t take much to entertain us, we thought that a farmers market date would be a lot of fun.
There were all sorts of vendors, but my favorite was Pete of Orlando City Pasta. Orlando City Pasta sells fresh pasta. You heard right, FRESH pasta. Absolutely no preservatives, and not boxed. All of their pasta cooks in 1-4 minutes. They have a selection of Angel Hair, Elbow, Fettuccine, Gnocchi, Gnocchetti, Linguini, Pasta Sheets, Ravioli, Rigatoni, Spaghetti, and Tagliatelle.
I picked out Gnocchetti and Pete threw in a bag of Fettuccine (thanks!). He was confident that I would be back the following week for more.
Gnocchetti Sardi is the Southern Italian version of Gnocchi. It’s made with durum instead of potato flour.
I made this pasta with a Thyme Butter sauce.
It was to die for. I didn’t want my meal to end.
Typically, I make my grape or cherry tomato sauces during the summer because they’re sweet and light, but the farmers market had beautiful (Fresh from Florida!) abundance of grape tomatoes. I couldn’t pass them up!
I was in love. It puts all of the expensive, dry, gourmet pastas to shame.
I was a bit worried that the pasta would be too soft, or stick together. None of that happened. This was the easiest pasta I’ve ever cooked in my life.
If you’re in the Orlando area, you’ve got to check out Orlando City Pasta at the Winter Garden farmers market on Saturdays 8 am – 2 pm.
