Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting some ladies from All Things Sweet by O.U.R Mission. All Things Sweet treated the blogging group I’m a part of to a luncheon where we could learn about this wonderful program.
All Things Sweet is a culinary training program and a mobile specialty dessert catering company. It’s also a Social Enterprise program at the Orlando Union Rescue Mission (OURM) where they teach homeless women and men the art and business of baking and cake decorating. When the community purchases baked goods from this program, they are giving the gifts of food, care, and hope to a person in need.
Students create and prepare desserts to sell to the community such as cupcakes, brownies, cookies, moon pies and dessert bars to name a few.
This is part of their Valentine’s Menu:
Sweet Rose Cookies $26.82 per dozen
Sweet Rose Cupcakes $26.82 per dozen
Sweet Rose Bouquet $40.00 per dozen
*Individual packaging and pricing is available upon request
*The deadline for specialty desserts for Valentine’s Day is Monday, February 10, 2014
*26.82 is the cost of giving a hot meal and a day of life-changing care for one homeless man, woman or child in Central Florida.
*Baked goods and desserts can be ordered by emailing AllThingsSweet@OURM.org
or calling 407.472.0633
*The All Things Sweet Mobile Truck is available for private and corporate events, fairs, and festivals.
Going into this, I truly didn’t know what to expect. The luncheon was held at OURM’s beautiful Moody Chapel, and right away I was greeted by Lanette. Soon after, a woman named Beth took care of us. Other women from All Things Sweet came around, who were very gracious. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried their baked goods. They were baked to perfection and truly delectable treats. It shouldn’t be a surprise considering the team consists of:
Angel Marie Buckland–Culinary & Pastry Chef/Instructor.
A two-time Silver Medalist winner for ACF’s State Championship and Winterfest tournament. She is also a Wilton Certified Instructor. Angel also has a heart and passion for ministry, where she had been active in the past 20 years as a children’s pastor.
Terah Barrios– Culinary & Pastry Chef/Instructor
She holds a degree in Baking and Pastry Management. Terah interned at a French bakery in Windermere called My French Cafe, where she was offered a job working with the owner. She is also a member of the American Culinary Federation, a member of International Cake Exploration Society (I.C.E.S) and is a Wilton Certified Instructor.
Even though this tart will not be on the menu, I have to tell you all how delicious it was. The crust was buttery with the perfect consistency. I’ve had really bad tarts/quiches at cafes, more bad than good to be honest. In fact, Lisa of Taste Cook Sip was going on and on about it.
Here are the stars of the show:
From left to right: Melina, Paticia, Beth, and Chef Angel
Melina is known for her amazing butter cream.
Patricia says that this class has awakened her passion for culinary. She has a dream of opening a bakery/cake with her daughter who is currently in Culinary School.
Beth is applying at a community culinary school at Second Harvest. She homeschooled seven children and has a passion for learning. Beth is also known as the mama of the group. I could tell she was because she made sure everyone was comfortable and our drinks were full.
Thank you ladies for putting together this fantastic luncheon. Now everyone in the city of Orlando should get their Valentines orders in!! 🙂
By the way, my favorite goodies were the cupcakes and moonpies!
