Welcome to my home away from home.
Need a jolt of caffeine?
In the mood to people watch?
Tummy’s growling and you need a little nosh?
Located in the heart of historic downtown Mount Dora, One Flight Up is a local and tourist hot spot. I don’t care what mood I’m in, I’m always in the mood to hang out there. It’s my spot to get work done, grab a quick (and delicious!) bite, hang out with friends, or have a nice little date night.
Their menu has a variety of breakfast items, sandwiches, salads, soups, appetizers, and homemade baked goods. I personally love their caprese salad, cheesy onion dip, and praline bread pudding. Not into coffee? They have a wine and beer (American & Import) menu. There’s live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. Team Trivia is hosted every Sunday evening from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm. I’ve never participated, but I always hear people laughing from blocks away. It seems like a lot of people play.
OFU has over three rooms, which you can reserve and order catering for special events.
Their white chocolate frappuccino with non-GMO soy milk is my favorite, but my usual is their delicious cappuccino or a double espresso. I see a lot of customers order chai lattes and flavored cafe lattes (they have so many flavors!). Recently, a Starbucks opened about a mile away and I always choose One Flight Up over them. There’s been numerous times where my coffee or espresso from Starbucks had an awful burnt taste. It’s so frustrating because I’ll get my drink from the drive thru, wait for my latte to cool, and realize my drink is gross about a mile or two away. I have never had that issue at OFU, they seem to keep their machines clean.
You also can’t beat great service and down to earth people. Roger, one of the owners of OFU was one of the first locals I had met. He was very genuine, had lots of pride in the city and wanted to make sure we left the cafe happy. After living here for a year, I always hear him talking to customers, and he always wants to know what they’re all about and has great conversations with them. Judy is another owner who is sweet, and I love their servers Carl & Frenchie.
The popular reading nook that’s always occupied!
How can something so small give a place heaps of character?
Local artist, Bev Neal of Paint Outside the Lines has her gallery inside One Flight Up.
My favorite part is the outdoor seating area on their balcony, especially on a cool breezy evening. I still frequent these parts in the summer because I enjoy people watching. This balcony is also dog friendly. 🙂
They have the best view of historic downtown.
I love when the horse and carriage go by..that’s not something you typically see in Florida. How neat is that?
If you’re ever in Mount Dora, this is definitely something you should add to your list. I promise you won’t be disappointed! Tell them Annie (from Miami!) sent you.
Do you have a local hangout? Is it anything like One Flight Up?
