Who’s ready for Christmas?! I’m positive you are running around town like a crazy person. This past weekend, I attended a couple parties, went to a few events and attempted to finish up Christmas shopping. I was asked to bring something sweet to a party, but didn’t have time to bake.
I did have gluten free Chex Party Mix cereal
and I always have chocolate on hand. I decided to make Chocolate Salted Caramel Muddy Buddies. The first time I ever consumed “muddy buddies” was a couple Christmases in Philly. For whatever reason, they call this “puppy chow” up there. That doesn’t sound too appetizing though. Anyways, me and my cousin fought over the container. His girlfriend at the time made another batch for us. The original batches I’ve had were made with cocoa and powdered sugar, but these chocolate salted caramel muddy buddies are my favorite!
7 Cups of Chex Party Mix cereal
1/4 (4 tablespoons of unsalted butter
1 8 oz bag of Dove caramel and milk chocolate
1 cup of powdered sugar
- Place cereal pieces in a large bowl and set aside.
- Unwrap chocolate candies, place them in a saucepan. Add butter to pan, and melt over low heat, stirring constantly.
- Once the chocolate is completely melted, remove from heat and pour it over your cereal, folding gently to evenly coat. Sprinkle with powdered sugar to coat cereal pieces, stirring and folding until all pieces are covered.
What I like about this recipe compared to the “original” is that the sea salt gives it a savory kick. I’m all about the ying and yang in recipes!
Just a friendly reminder, don’t forget to stock up on Ziploc products before Christmas. My Aunt Lorraine taught me to buy plenty of bags and containers prior to big dinners so you can send your guests home with leftovers. I’m forever sending people away with food, this is such a great tip!
