I’ve been sitting on this post for about a month now, not sure if I should share this with you all because the pictures aren’t the prettiest. No matter what angle or lighting, some of the dishes are going to look like a hot mess. But let’s be real, comfort food isn’t the prettiest. Your favorite dishes your Grams prepares with tons of love isn’t Instagram ready but it’s real and it’s oh so delicious!
Mount Dora is known for British Tea Rooms. We’re down to one now, but none of them have ever served anything like this. A couple years ago, I took my best friend around Downtown Mount Dora. Workers placing a sign that said The Magical Meat Boutique stopped us in our tracks. What does that even mean? Is it a store? Was this the new home for a restaurant? Are the Baby Boomers trolling us?
Even after seeing this pub thrive, always passing by a full house, I never wanted to check it out. When I go out to eat, I usually love eating seafood. Ceviche, oysters and sushi are what I typically get on a night out.
And then last month, I had a Saturday afternoon to myself. All I wanted to do was day drink and eat delicious food. I forgot why or who suggested The Magical Meat Boutique, but it’s a PUB and I thought “Why the heck not?!”
This quirky British Tavern has a lot of personality. I definitely appreciated the kitschy decor and friendly staff. You can find organic English lagers and ales, along with bottled domesticated (plz don’t, guys. Go for the English stuff!) at this pub. Their tap selection is great, Hobgoblin (England), Newcastle Brown (England), Innis & Gunn IPA (Scotland) and Guinness (Ireland) to name a few. Our waitress suggested I try mead, a honey wine. I’m not exactly crazy about sweet drinks but this was so delicious. I had a couple. Okay, maybe three.
I haven’t eaten an egg in almost a year. I’m not quite sure what happened but I woke up one day and the thought of eating them made me sick. I broke the eggless streak at The Magical Meat Boutique.
We ordered these eggs because the waitress raved about them. I mean, they really are a thing in England, so I might as well.
Whoever came up with this genius idea of wrapping a hard boiled egg in sausage and deep frying it, I love you. Apparently, they serve the eggs at picnics, parties and convenient stores. They are also called “snack eggs”, “egg bites” and “party eggs”. I am so down with the party eggs.
Oh, I also like eggs again.
Remember when I said I’m going to share not so cute pictures?
A type of blood sausage served in Great Britain.
Blood sausage isn’t my thing. I’ve tried the Colombian, Filipino and Vietnamese varieties. It always tastes too offensive, like mineral. The British kind? I can eat it all day. It’s savory and full of flavor. This joint got me eating eggs and blood sausage, what is this sorcery?!
Chicken Pot Pie that you’ll want to swim in.
Bangers & Mash are my jam, but I decided to try their Roast Duck and Spring Onion Salad. The duck was cooked to perfection. Duck can be hit or miss because some people overcook it, which makes it dry. Choosing a salad was smart because it was very hot outside. I don’t like feeling stuffed in the summer heat.
Don’t forget to check out their chocolate cake made out of Guinness. THAT IS ALL.
Did I mention that they serve British breakfast all day? Oh and that they also carry goodies from across the pond? Seriously, The Magical Meat Boutique is so legit.
