Next month will be four years since I purchased my home. As a first time home buyer, it was one of the most exciting yet nerve-racking experience of my life. If you know me, it’s hard to believe that I was extremely emotional during this process. I’m a very relaxed, go with the flow kind of girl, so when people told me this was going to be a very stressful moment in my life…I laughed it off.
I turned into a complete psycho by day 2 of searching for homes online. At the time, I was looking to buy a house in Broward County. It was the perfect area for my wants and needs. I was looking for a single family home, with room to grow. If I were to have kids over the next couple of years, it would make sense to live in a school district with fantastic schools, right?
Every time I had my heart set on a house that were up to my standards, it would get a bid the next day. It seemed like the houses would be up for a few hours online and would get offers right away. This isn’t even the stressful part of buying a home, yet I was a complete mess. A good friend of mine suggested using a realtor. She knew of a woman that everyone used to buy or sell their homes through her church. This is actually when the mayhem started.
To make a long story short, this person and their broker put me in a horrible position when I did find my home. Offer made, inspection took place, money spent left and right. These professionals didn’t catch something that most would see. The home I was supposed to close on in a week had liens on it.
It was pure chaos, I felt sick to my stomach for a month straight. At the point, I was kind of over everything and everyone in South FL, so I decided to build a home in the Central FL area.
It seemed like the easy way out, but it truly wasn’t. Playing the waiting game and making sure everything looked kosher was pretty stressful. The whole process took about nine months.
Looking back, I wish I didn’t use a realtor that mutual friends went to church with. Feeling like you have to walk on eggshells while someone is royally messing up your life isn’t fun.
When UpNest said they wanted to partner with me, I jumped on it after checking out their site. Sparing a friend or reader from agony during the home buying or selling purchase is what I’m here for.
First, it’s a FREE service.
And it’s extremely easy to use.
You’ll have to click on some questions to fit your needs. I did both selling and buying just to see. Each option process was less than two minutes. For both, you get a list of top agents that fit your needs. It’s nice to be able to compare. I got to ask questions like “What makes you different compared to the other local agents?”. I did my research on them. It was nice to see that they really were the best agents in my area.
Are you looking to buy or sell your home this new year?
