A few days ago, I saw a couple quotes from Dion Waiters of the Miami Heat that truly hit home:
“I always tell people, you can’t really have a bad day in Miami,”
“If you do, you’re just a miserable person. You wake up and walk outside, it’s nice and you’re wearing flip flops, a t-shirt and shorts all day.”
This goes for most of the state, especially hot tourist spots. Some locals do whatever they can to avoid attractions, which I think is silly, especially after experiencing a staycation at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando.
Charm, luxury and romance, this beautiful escape has it all. Every turn we took was picturesque, so you know we faked these effortless candid poses through out the grounds.
The property was recreated after the famed Mediterranean village of Portofino, Italy. Steven Spielberg was a consultant on the design of this hotel, no biggie. WHAT? Considering he’s The Godfather of Universal Studios, it makes sense but I thought that fact was pretty cool. Movies, rides and designing hotels, home boy does it all.
The breathtaking Italian Cypress Tree path brings you to The Villa Pool.
Bocce ball court
Since I have family in South Philly, this Italian sport is seen through out the neighborhood but I’ve never seen such a beautiful court. Obviously, the ones in Philadelphia are urban but this is how I imagine bocce ball in Italy.
The Villa Pool suits me better. I don’t have children and quiet time means everything to me at the moment. Cabana rentals and changing stations with lockers for people who checked in but their rooms are not ready are available in this area.
Don’t fret, the Portofino has something for everyone. Their beautiful Beach Pool and Hillside pool are perfect for families. What’s great about the Beach Pool is that you can spend a whole day there. There’s a bar, quick bites, ping pong, billiards and interactive pool activities for the kiddos.
Being on vacation, I prefer not having to drive everywhere. While I explored I found an opulent spa with an array of services, lounges, little shops, cafes and restaurants.
Our first event was Harbor Nights Romantico, which was held underneath the stars on the Harbor Piazza overlooking the water. We enjoyed gourmet food from each of the Portofino’s on site restaurants, paired with delicious wine. There was so much pasta, I was in heaven! I’m not sure which restaurant was my favorite since everything was so yummy. Shout out to Mama Della’s, Bice, Trattoria del Porto and The Thirsty Fish!
A fantastic live band played through out the evening, but my favorite part were the opera singers that sang on the balcony. It was such a cool experience. I got super excited when they sang my favorite song from Phantom. The opera singers come out every single night and sing for the crowd, by the way. Special details like that make me so happy. It’s the little things, right?
Of course I spent the weekend with my little bro, David of Mods Manor.
You all know we hit up room service for their perfect cheese burgers. Not pictured, but we also enjoyed calzones at Sal’s.
We were absolutely obsessed with the beds here. I swear, my body melted like butter in the mattress and I fell asleep as soon as I put my head on the pillow. That is not normal for me at all.
A little bubbles and chocolate covered strawberries.
My friend who works on property found out I was a guest and hooked me up. He’s so slick. When I read the card, I had tears from laughing so hard.
The complimentary water taxis through out Universal Orlando makes life easier. They’re not only convenient but the ride is beautiful.
Staying at the Portofino Bay has it’s perks, like complimentary fast passes. Time is everything, guys. Because we could skip the lines, we were able to enjoy both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in one day. And if you have a family, this is so awesome. You don’t want to miss out on these passes.
I have a deep dark secret, I’ve never read or seen a Harry Potter book or movie but I’m obsessed with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. How weird is that? Ever since my brothers introduced me a couple years ago, I’m all about this section of the theme park. It’s just so much fun and BUTTER BEER!!!
You’re probably wondering about the wand. They’re sold in the Wizarding World sections of both parks. Through out this area, there are interactive spots marked with medallions and instructions aka “spells”. Things happen, y’all. In fact, when I waved this wand around for photos, water shot out of nowhere and scared me to death. The kids seem to love this feature, I can totally see why.
We got to check out The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium
Wow, this steam punk themed restaurant is very whimsical. You really feel like a kid in a candy shop. They’re known for their chocolate martinis, sundaes and assortment of confectionary delights. Since we had been eating chocolate all weekend, we kind of chilled.
Just kidding, we didn’t chill. Check out our decadent strawberry shortcake. Thank you for the tasty food, Toothsome! 🙂
We ended our stay with Mardi Gras. It was hilarious to see David get competitive over the bead situation. We had so much fun!
Just a typical Saturday night, ya know.
What is my life?
Spending the day with Becky was so much fun but what I like about her is that she mixes in business and pleasure like myself. We danced, sang, but had to capture pictures and videos for you all.
Yandel put on an amazing show. I haven’t had this much fun in a long time.
As you can see, my staycation at the Loews Portofino Bay was amazing. I was able to recharge, enjoy myself and have tons of fun. Tourist or Central FL local, you need to experience this property ASAP. Enjoy Florida and La Dolce Vita, friends!
Thank you Loews Portofino Bay at Universal Orlando for the collaboration and making this post possible. As always, all opinions are my own!
