One of my biggest regrets is dressing too casual during family vacations. I’m forever going through old photos wondering why I didn’t put it some effort in my hairstyles and outfits. I have hundreds of photos with my hair in a bun, rocking a bikini top, shorts and a couple of Roxy dresses that were worn to dinners. Absolutely zero diversity, it’s a bummer. I’ve learned how to be practical, comfortable yet put together over the last couple of years. Trust me, it’s easier than you think.
A few weeks ago, Universal Orlando and Loews Portofino Bay invited me for a fun staycation. I welcomed this holiday with open arms because I’ve heard wonderful things about this luxurious hotel that recreated the famed seaside village of Portofino, Italy in our own backyard. Us Central Floridians have the best resorts near us, we’re pretty lucky.
Since my time has been very limited lately, I only had 30 minutes to pack. My favorite rompers, flowy skirts, sandals, Cibu hair products and my curling wand were thrown into my suitcase. This was probably my lightest suitcase to date but I looked so put together, how funny is that?
Ladies, I swear that rompers are my go to for almost everything. Cute, comfy, extremely light, which makes packing a breeze. They were my go to for theme park days because Universal Studios and Islands of Adventures are known for their rollercoasters, didn’t want wardrobe malfunctions.
This scenic property has multiple locations that are perfect for a photo op. My favorite was this walkway by the pool, I couldn’t get over how gorgeous the trees were. It was nice to explore without a care in the world, something I need to do more.
No look is complete without a hairstyle. As much as I love my mane, I don’t have a lot of time to spend on it. Here was my go to quick hairstyle during my little vacay:
I brought Finista Hairspray, Shang High Volumizing Mousse, Shimmer Smoothing Cream, Shine Squad Gloss Drops and Shine Squad Argan Oil Treatment with me to the hotel, a girl needs options. I didn’t use them all at the same time. I’ll share below how I created this quick hairstyle above and what products I used.
Easy half up, half down pony with volume.
Of course Duke had to jump in.
I started off with fresh blown out hair. When it was damp, I used a little bit of Shang High Volumizing Mousse. It adds some oomph, the soy protein moisturizes, adds shine and I love that there isn’t alcohol, which means it’s nondrying. To reduce blow drying time, I added a dime size amount of Shimmer Smoothing Cream.
Pull your hair up tight at the top of your head and secure it with a hair elastic.
Twist your hair around the hot wand, no need to curl the ends. Curl for about 10 seconds. We’re not going for perfection, alternate each direction of the curl when you get to each piece. For face framing sections of your hair, like the pic above, make sure the curl is being wrapped away from your face.
Spray a little bit of Finista Flexible Finishing Spray on your curls. This is my favorite hairspray of all time. I love that it doesn’t make my hair feel crunchy, that’s one of my biggest hair pet peeves, that crunchy 90s look. Another plus is that it’s paraben-free and gets the job done. This formula holds up pretty well in this Florida humidity, I love it. Argan and coconut oil is in this hair spray, which gives your hair beautiful shine.
Don’t forget to curl your top pony!
Take a little piece of your top pony and wrap it around the elastic. Secure the wrap with a couple of bobby pins. Go to town with the hair spray on that knot.
Smooth out your curls with the Shine Squad Argan Oil Treatment. It’s so delicious. I love the way it smells, eliminates frizz, seals the cuticle, isn’t heavy or greasy. The oil absorbs beautifully into my hair.
The Gloss Drops can be used instead of the Shine Squad Argan Oil. These drops hydrates with agave and strengthens with rice protein. So simple, guys. It took less than 15 minutes to do my hair.
How beautiful is this property? I can’t wait to share my time there with you all soon!
